【Jiulong Pool】danxia dammed lake
Jiulong Pool covers an area of 100 mu, with a water storage capacity of 360,000 m3. The pool is 5000 meters long, with the maximum water depth as far as 18 meters. The widest part of the pool is 120 meters and the narrowest part is less than 1 meter. Experienced through the multi-phase mountain building movements during Tertiary (a geologic period from 65 million to 1.806 million years ago), the canyons were formed through the sculpture of geologic processes such as collapsing. Some falling rocks dammed the bottom of the canyon. Consequently, the deep pool came into being by collecting groundwater runoff, springs, and rains. Hence it is referred to as “danxia dammed lake” Thanks to the good ecological environment, there is lush vegetation coverage. Therefore, this pool has never drained.
